The Honda Insight is the UK’s most affordable hybrid family car with sky-high economy and ultra-low emissions.

Prices start at under £16,500 yet the Honda Insight comes with the latest petrol/electric technology allied to a continuously variable transmission system that results in significant savings in terms of fuel, taxes and company car liabilities.

Despite the unusually low price for an advanced hybrid vehicle of this sophistication the Honda Insight is lavishly equipped and is tipped to achieve record residual values.

The entry-level SE grade Honda Insight includes a CD sound system, climate control, electric folding door mirrors, front and rear electric windows and steering wheel audio controls. The ES grade comes additionally with 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic lights and wipers, cruise control, front fog lights, heated front seats, leather steering wheel and gear knob, paddle shift manual transmission override, privacy glass and a USB port that is compatible with iPods. The ES-T models of the Insight are additionally fitted with satellite navigation and hands-free technology kit.

Also fitted as standard across the Honda Insight range are one-touch indicators, an adjustable driver’s seat, foot rest, passenger seat back pocket and vanity mirrors for both the driver and front passenger.

All models of the Honda Insight have front, side and curtain air bags, infant-friendly front passenger air bag cut-off switch, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and emergency brake assist. They also have front seat belt pre-tensioners, five three-point seat belts and ISOFIX child seat restraint mechanism, three rear head restraints, vehicle stability assist and optional parking sensors.

Security systems include an engine immobiliser and alarm, remote keyless entry, integrated sound system and Honda Superlock deadlocks for all doors. In terms of the environment Honda’s hybrid Insight boasts economy of up to 64.2mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 101g/km

The Honda Insight is powered by a 1339cc petrol engine mated to a continuously variable ’press & go’ transmission plus an electric motor and a high-power, nickel-metal hydride battery located under the boot to help lower the centre of gravity.

The petrol engine produces 87bhp on its own plus 14bhp from the electric motor. Pulling power is 89lb/ft from the petrol engine plus 58lb/ft from the electric motor. In addition to the hybrid combination of a petrol engine and electric motor in the Honda Insight there is an extremely sophisticated array of high-tech electronic management systems that optimise economy and cleanliness, including stop & start that make the Honda Insight among the world’s most eco-friendly vehicles.

Economy and emissions are 64mpg and 101g/km for the SE and 105g/km and 61.4mpg for ES and ES-T models. Despite the impressive economy and low emissions there is acceleration to 60mph in 12.5 seconds and a top speed of 113mph

The entry level S model Honda Insight costs from £16,225, the SE comes in at £16,325  with the generously-equipped ES model available from £17,655.

The ES-T Honda Insight costing from £19,290 comes with extremely lavish specification that includes hands-free telephone and DVD satellite navigation.
