The Honda Jazz is often referred to as being like a Tardis because despite its external supermini size the Jazz is as roomy inside as many compact cars from the class above.

All Jazz models come with Honda’s renowned reliability as standard and although air condition is missing for the entry-level S model in favour of a lower price, it is standard on the SE together with alloy wheels.

The 1.4 ES gains rear electric windows in addition to those at the front plus rear speakers for the sound system, which incorporates an MP3-compatible CD system. The top-flight EX Honda Jazz models have a panoramic glass roof, darkened windows and climate control. The 1.4-litre models also have electronic stability programme and traction control plus the option of automatic transmission.

All Honda Jazz models have a strengthened five-door body with safety cell and each is equipped with half a dozen air bags including twin front, side and curtain bags.

There are active anti-whiplash head restraints on all Honda Jazz models with the addition of electronic stability programme plus traction control on the 1.4-litre versions.

All Jazz models have anti-theft deadlocks on the doors, a visible VIN plate and a fully integrated sound system. The 1.2-litre Honda Jazz models have a CO2 rating of 125g/km and average economy in excess of 50mpg. The 1.4 ES is rated at 128g/km with economy of 52mpg whilst the 1.4 EX has a CO2 figure of 130g/km and average economy of 51.4mpg.

The Honda Jazz comes with a choice of two petrol engines of 1.2 and 1.4 litres. A five-speed manual transmission is standard whilst on the 1.4-litre versions there is the optional choice of i-SHIFT automatic.

The 1.2-litre unit generates 89bhp of power and 84lb ft of torque, or pulling power. This results in acceleration in this Jazz model to 60mph in 12.5 seconds and a top speed of 110mph for effortless motorway cruising. Economy is 53.3mpg and the CO2 rating is 125g/km.

The 1.4-litre engine in the Honda Jazz generates 99bhp of power and between 94lb ft and 98lb ft of torque, which enables the car to reach 60mph in 10.9 seconds with a top speed of 113mph. Economy is 52.3mpg for the ES model and 51.4mpg for the EX with CO2 ratings of 128g/km and 130g/km.

Prices for the Honda Jazz start at £10,940 for the 1.2 S model, rising to £11,965 for the Honda Jazz SE.

The 1.4 ES Jazz is £12,640 and the 1.4 EX is £13,965. Automatic transmission is available on the 1.4-litre versions for £820.
