The pro_cee’d may appear to be simply a three-door version of the five-door c’eed but in reality it is sufficiently different to be regarded as a separate model in its own right.
The pro_cee’d has additional equipment over that of the c’eed and there are several models and engine choices in the range to achieve 70 per cent coverage of the UK’s increasingly important three-door compact market.
Air conditioning and alloy wheels are standard on every pro_cee’d, and a sports equipment pack is fitted to the two upper models.

There are trim and equipment levels of 2, 3 and Sport, with all having electric power steering, alloy wheels, air conditioning, central locking, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, electric front windows, Bluetooth connectivity and split-folding rear seats.
Almost all models also feature a six-speaker sound system with USB connector for an MP3 player and remote locking with an alarm.
Half of the models in the range upgrade the air conditioning system to fully automatic climate control and the Sport version boasts leather upholstery, traction control and ESP electronic stability programme. Both the CRDi 3 and Sport also have cruise control.
The accent may be upon sportiness but the pro_cee’d gets top marks for both safety and environmental friendliness. The five-door cee-d equivalent has been safety-tested by Euro NCAP and earned maximum five-stars for adult occupant protection and four stars for child safety.
All models feature ABS anti-lock braking with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution). Sport versions back that up with ESP stability control and Brake Assist System, which helps deliver maximum stopping power in an emergency.
Each model is also fitted with twin front airbags, side airbags and full-length curtain airbags. The rear cabin features ISOFIX child seat mounting points and three-point seatbelts. There’s also an airbag cut-off to enable the use of a rear-facing child seat in the front.
The pro_cee’d line-up includes a choice of entry-level 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines and two diesels. The 1.4-litre unit generates 103bhp to give the car a top speed of 116mph, acceleration to 60mph in 11.4 seconds and economy of 46mpg. The petrol unit is available with choice of a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission. In manual form it can achieve 119mph with acceleration to 60mph in 10.8 seconds and returns an official combined average of 44.1mpg.
There is also a 1.6-litre turbodiesel in two states of tune – 89bhp and 113bhp – plus the 138bhp 2.0 turbodiesel range-topper. Driving through a five-speed manual gearbox, the 89bhp 1.6 turbodiesel achieves economy of 60mpg, has a top speed of 106mph and accelerates to 60mph in 13.5 seconds.
The same figures for the more powerful 113bhp version are economy of 58.9mpg, a top speed of 117mph and acceleration to 60mph in 10.1 seconds.
The pro_cee’d range starts with the 1.4 ZR-7 at £11,995 followed by the 1.6 pro_cee’d 2 at £12,570. The 1.6 pro_cee’d 3 has more equipment and costs £13,570. The diesel-powered 1.6 CRDi 2 is £13,695, the 1.6 CRDi 3 costs £14,570 and the Range-topping 2.0 CRDi Sport is £15,770.
