Kia Sedona

The Kia Sedona is a full-sized seven-seat people-carrier with a roomy, versatile interior and the added convenience of two sliding rear side doors.

The Kia Sedona line-up features muscular engines, uncompromising safety equipment and a generous array of convenience and comfort items. Refined road manners and a comfortable ride make this an enjoyable car, both in town and on the motorway. It’s also a practical one, whether you’re transporting people or making use of its maximum 1770-litre cargo capacity to get flat-pack furniture home.

The Kia Sedona benefits from a high quality of assembly. It is also noted for offering keen value and inexpensive running costs for a vehicle of this size, specification and versatility.

All Kia Sedona’s feature seven seats in a two-three-two layout and the second and third rows can be removed to accommodate larger loads. For easy access, the Kia Sedona has sliding rear side doors, which are operated electrically on most versions.

Each model is equipped with fold-down tables, three 12v power outlets, a large array of oddment storage areas and a minimum of 10 cupholders. In addition, remote central locking, an alarm, three-zone air conditioning, six-speaker CD/radio system, front and rear electric windows, electric door mirrors, roof rails and alloy wheels are standard.

Most models feature reversing sensors and three-zone climate control, while top-specification TS variants also have cruise control, leather trim and heated front seats.

The Kia Sedona has been awarded a strong four-star rating by EuroNCAP for its crash test performance. Its safety credentials are bolstered by an impressive array of equipment that includes twin front airbags, side airbags and full-length curtain airbags. Every model also features ABS anti-lock brakes with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution).

All seven seats have a three-point seatbelt and the front two are fitted with pre-tensioners. In addition, Sedona TS models have anti-whiplash active head restraints in the front.

A cut-off switch for the passenger airbag allows the use of a rear-facing child seat in the front and there are ISOFIX child seat mounting points in the second and third rows. Most models have an anti-pinch safety feature on the electric sliding rear doors.

CO2 emissions are rated at 206g/km for the manual version of the 2.9 CRDi and 224g/km for the automatic. The 2.7 V6 emits 255g/km.

Most Kia Sedona’s are powered by a 2.9-litre diesel that is equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger to optimise pulling power across a wide range of engine speeds. A substantial 343Nm of hauling muscle is available from just 1750rpm and remains on tap all the way to 3500rpm. The result is strong, readily available pull in daily driving, backed up by a power peak of 183bhp.

The 2.9 CRDi Kia Sedona ’s performance runs to 122mph when fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox. However, the diesel Kia Sedona combines its eager response with a frugal approach to fuel consumption. The manual version is rated at an official combined 36.2mpg.

The 2.9 CRDi is also available with an electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission, which offers 120mph performance and 31.4mpg economy.

The other engine in the Kia Sedona line-up is a smooth, sweet-revving 2.7-litre petrol V6, which is connected to a five-speed manual transmission. Its maximum pulling strength of 249Nm is available between 1750rpm and 3500rpm – the same as with the diesel – and its power peaks at 186bhp. As a result, it mixes 119mph performance with a combined fuel economy of 26.4mpg. Both engines send their power to the front wheels and require a service only once every 10,000 miles or annually, whichever is the sooner.

The Kia Sedona line-up kicks off with the 2.7 V6 GS petrol model, which is priced at £16,395. Its diesel equivalent is the £17,945 2.9 CRDi GS and the same engine with mid-range LS trim costs £19,945. The top model in the line-up is the 2.9 CRDi TS. Equipped with the standard-fit manual gearbox, this most luxurious variant is £21,945. Each diesel model is also available with automatic transmission for an extra £1200.
