The Renault Grand Scenic is a mid-sized MPV capable of carrying up to seven people. In Renault’s line-up it slots between the larger Renault Espace and the shorter Renault Scenic, which is reviewed separately.
The Renault Grand Scenic makes a priority of comfort, space and everyday practicality. The seating offers a versatile layout that can be adapted quickly and easily to suit changing requirements. The cabin is also bright, airy and decently equipped, with intuitive, well-weighted controls.
A wide range of models include eager petrol engines and refined, punchy diesels. The Renault Grand Scenic is also noted for its excellent safety credentials, modern technology and contemporary design.

The Renault Grand Scenic is a five-door MPV with seven seats in a two-three-two layout. The rear pair of seats can be folded flat when luggage space takes priority over passengers. Cargo capacity ranges from 200 litres in seven-seat format to 1920 litres with just two seats in use.
Every Renault Grand Scenic is equipped with power steering, electric front windows, air conditioning, six-speaker CD/radio sound system, alloy wheels and electrically-adjustable and heated door mirrors. Most also have electric rear windows, cruise control, rear sun blinds and automatic lights. Satellite navigation, leather seats and a panoramic sunroof are available as options on the majority of models.
The Renault Grand Scenic employs the same safety technology and shares much of its structure with the Scenic, which received a maximum five-star crash test rating from EuroNCAP.
That technology includes standard fitment across the board of twin front airbags, side airbags and curtain airbags. In addition, there are ISOFIX mounting points for child seats on the outer seats of the second row and on the front passenger seat.
Each occupant also has a three-point seatbelt, with pretensioned belts in the front. Every Renault Grand Scenic features ABS anti-lock brakes, whilst ESP electronic stability control can be added to most variants as an option.
The lowest carbon footprint is made by the five-seat Expression dCi 106, which emits 137g/km of CO2. The most powerful diesel engine, the dCi150, is rated at just 154g/km in five-seat Dynamic trim. The emissions of the petrol line-up start from 185g/km.
The Renault Grand Scenic comes with a choice of two petrol engines and three diesels. Manual and automatic transmission are available on all but the entry-level petrol and diesel engine. All power the front wheels.
Most models are seven-seat, so all figures in this section are for those versions. Expect five-seat variants to be even more fuel efficient, albeit only slightly.
The dCi 106 comes with six-speed manual transmission and is the most frugal in the line-up. It delivers an impressive combined average economy of 52.3mpg, yet its 240Nm of pull helps it achieve 111mph.
The most powerful diesel, available with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic, is the dCi 150. In manual guise, its 340Nm of hauling muscle brings 127mph performance although economy remains excellent at 48.7mpg.
The mid-range diesel is the dCi 130, which combines 119mph pace with 47.1mpg economy when driving through a six-speed manual gearbox. This engine generates 300Nm of pull and is also available with a four-speed automatic.
The most powerful petrol engine, the 135bhp 2.0 VVT, is also offered with a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. The manual version blends 121mph potential with 34.4mph economy.
The other petrol engine is the 110bhp 1.6 VVT. This version offers additional economy of 35.7mpg in exchange for some pace although it is still capable of 112mph. It is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Renault Grand Scenic prices range from £16,970 for the seven-seat Extreme 1.6 VVT petrol model to £25,270 for the diesel-powered seven-seat Privilege Tom Tom dCi 150 Auto.
The entry-level diesel model is the £18,335 Extreme dCi 106.
The I-Music special edition TCe 130 is £19,670 with a dCi 106
