The latest incarnation of the Renault Kangoo boasts several advantages over the original, being based on the new Renault Scenic platform, which generates even more space.

The vehicle is longer and wider but has short front and rear overhangs with a longer wheelbase that creates class-leading interior room for occupants and their luggage. It is this versatility coupled with a higher-than-average seating position that endows the Kangoo with equal appeal to older users who appreciate the easy access and to younger families following leisure and lifestyle pursuits.

The Renault Kangoo range comprises two trim levels of Extreme and Expression, with a choice of five engines and an automatic gearbox option for the first time.

The entry-level Kangoo Extreme has a 30W audio system with auxiliary point and fingertip controls, 12v power outlet in the centre console, driver and front passenger airbags and remote central locking.

Moving up to Expression adds a 4x15W audio system, body-coloured bumpers and door mirrors, electric/folding door mirrors, front fog lights, ISOFIX points for the front passenger seat and front overhead and multi-position rear parcel shelves.  Renault Kangoo Options include a CD MP3 audio system with auxiliary point and Bluetooth, 15-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and speed limiter, ESP with traction control and understeer control, front and rear curtain airbags, rear parking sensors, rear roof flap, roof bars, electric rear windows and integrated satellite navigation. There are also two options packs comprising the Adaptability Pack at £125, which includes a folding front passenger seat and rear aviation tables, plus the £250 Easy Pack, which has automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers plus electric rear windows.

Safety and security are high on the Renault Kangoo agenda with all models having front and side air bags, front seatbelt pretensioners, power steering, central locking and an engine immobiliser plus alarm. It is also possible to have a Kangoo optionally equipped with electronic stability control with traction control and understeer control, cruise control with speed-limiter, front and rear curtain air bags and rear parking sensors.

The latest Renault Kangoo has increased in length by 180mm to 4213mm, in width by 102mm and the wheelbase has grown by 95mm to 2697mm. There is a new dashboard, trim and upholstery and a flat-floor cargo platform with the load volume boosted from 660 litres to 2,866 litres with the rear and front passenger seats folded, which also means that objects of up to 2.5-metres long can be carried.

There are innovative new roof bars that convert into a roof rack to take loads of up to 80kg in weight with no tools needed.

Powering the latest Kangoo is a range of five engines including the range-topping 1.5 dCi 106 with a six-speed gearbox for the first time. Three other dCi common rail diesel engines are on offer, comprising the dCi 68 and dCi 86 with an impressive combination of performance, economy and low emissions. Thanks to their all-round environmental friendliness, including a CO2 rating of 140g/km or less, both of these Engines gain membership of Renault’s eCO2 club. The 1.5 dCi model has economy of 53mpg, a CO2 rating of 140g/km, acceleration to 60mph in 16 seconds and a top speed of 100mph.

In addition, the latest Kangoo is available with Renault’s 1.6 8V and 1.6 16V four-cylinder petrol engines, the latter being available from late 2009 with the option of four-speed Proactive automatic transmission in place of the standard five-speed manual gearbox.

The entry Renault Kangoo model is the Extreme 1.6 8V priced at £11,700, with the 1.5 dCi 68 Extreme priced at £12,430 and the 1.5 dCi 86 costing £12,930.

The Expression range starts at £12,720 for the 1.6 8V.

Options include cruise control and speed limiter at £250, ESP with traction control for £300, 15-inch alloy wheels costing £500 per set, rear parking sensors at £250, electric rear windows costing £150, roof bars at £250 and a CD MP3 audio system with aux-in and Bluetooth at just £200
