Based on the standard Laguna Hatchback model but with sleek low-slung coupe looks and a taut two-door body, the Laguna Coupe is a genuine four-seat model and comes with a surprisingly spacious cargo area for this class of car.

All new Renault Laguna Coupes have two doors, four seats and an opening rear tailgate that reveals a generous carrying capacity of 423 litres.

In addition to the extensive safety equipment, every model of the Laguna Coupe features power steering, climate control, four electric windows, an MP3-compatible CD/radio sound system, alloy wheels, parking sensors, split-folding rear seats, electrically-operated door mirrors and Bluetooth connectivity.

Most Laguna Coupe models also come with cruise control and leather upholstery.

The New Laguna Coupe is based on the standard Laguna, which is an extremely safe car to which EuroNCAP has awarded a maximum five-stars in crash tests.

Across the range the Laguna Coupe is fitted with twin front, side and curtain airbags, three-point seatbelts, ISOFIX child seat mounting points, pretensioners on the front seatbelts and a switch to turn off the passenger airbag to enable safe use of a rear-facing child seat in the front. Toughened side windows provide added security in the event of a collision.

To reduce the risk of an accident the Laguna Coupe is equipped with the latest ABS anti-lock braking system and every model also features ESP electronic stability control.

The Renault Laguna Coupe comes with a choice of two petrol engines of 2.0 and 3.5 litres plus two diesels of 2.0 and 3.0 litres, with the former offering a choice of power outputs.

A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the 2.0-litre engines with an automatic option on the 150bhp diesel unit. Automatic transmission is standard on the most powerful 3.5-litre petrol and 3.0-litre V6 diesel models.

The 2.0T Laguna Coupe petrol models generate 202bhp for a top speed of 145mph, acceleration to 60mph in 7.8 seconds, economy averaging 34.5mpg and a CO2 rating of 194g/km. The 3.5 V6 GT has a power output of 237bhp for a top speed of 151mph, a 0-60mph acceleration time of 7.4 seconds, economy of 28.3mpg and a CO2 figure of 238g/km. The 2.0 dCi 150 has a power output of 150bhp to endow the car with acceleration to 60mph in 9.5 seconds with a top speed of 130mph, economy of 47mpg and a CO2 figure of 157g/km. The same figures for the 180bhp version are 8.5 seconds, 137mph, 43.5mpg and 172g/km. The 3.0 V6 dCi GT has an impressive torque figure of 332lb/ft and a power output of 232bhp, which translates in to a 0-60mph acceleration time of 7.3 seconds with a 150mph top speed, economy of 39.2mpg and a CO2 rating of 192g/km.

Prices start with the entry-level diesel version, the dCi 150 TomTom at £19,995.

At the top of the range is the 3.0 V6 235 auto dCi GT Laguna Coupe at £30,800.
