The latest incarnation of the Renault Megane Sport Tourer represents the further evolution of what was already a class-leading estate car within the compact class.

Undercutting most of its key rivals on price, there are several significant upgrades including new engines and transmissions.

The Megane Sport Tourer combines style and practicality within a rakish estate car body that is generously equipped and earns top marks for safety.

The Renault Megane Sport Tourer range starts with Extreme models from £14,935 to include 4x15W RDS radio CD, air conditioning, front and rear curtain airbags, electronic stability programme, folding front passenger seat, front and rear electric windows, keyless entry with Renault card and longitudinal roof bars.

Dynamique versions have 16-inch alloys wheels, automatic lights and wipers, Bluetooth and MP3 connection, hands-free Renault card and a leather steering wheel.

Like the latest Clio and Scénic models, there is a TomTom Edition of the Mégane Sport Tourer based on the Dynamique, which offers a Carminat TomTom for an additional £360 rather than the £450 cost of it as an option.

Completing the range, the flagship Privilège trim provides luxurious family motoring by adding dual-zone climate control, electric folding mirrors, electrochrome rear view mirror and rear armrest with storage.
Prices and options for Mégane Sport Tourer models are: £300 17-inch alloy wheels, £350 Arkamys 3D Sound 4x15W RDS radio CD with Bluetooth and multi-functional TunePoint, £150 automatic parking brake,
£400 dual zone climate control, £450 Carminat TomTom, £900 leather upholstery, £395 metallic paint, £400 parking proximity sensors front and rear, £600 electric panoramic sunroof.

There is also a Style Pack available on Expression versions at £380, which includes 16-inch Spirale alloy wheels and front fog lights

The Renault Megane Sport Tourer range earns top marks for safety with a five-star rating from EuroNCAP and all models have front, side and curtain air bags, ISOFIX child seat mountings plus deactivation of the front passenger air bag. There is also traction control and electronic stability programme.

There is an unusually wide choice of nine different engines for the Renault Megane Sport Tourer, comprising four petrol units and five diesels, with power outputs ranging from 86bhp to 180bhp.

The newest engines are the 1.4 TCe (Turbo Control efficiency) 130, the 2.0 VVT 140 CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), the 2.0 dCi 160 FAP and the 2.0 TCe 180.

There are also several new eco² branded versions with some of the lowest CO2 emissions in the class.
The 86bhp version of the 1.5 dCi engine has a CO2 figure of just 118g/km, which earns it a company car taxation liability of just 13 per cent. This model boasts economy of 62mpg and acceleration to 60mph in 12.9 seconds.

The more powerful 106bhp version manages to stay at the 120g/km mark for CO2 emissions and acceleration to 60mph is reduced to 10.9 seconds whilst maintaining impressive economy of 62mpg.
In the case of the 1.9 dCi 130 there is acceleration to 60mph in 9.5 seconds, a CO2 rating of 134g/km and economy of 55mpg.

There is also a Megane Sport Tourer model with continuously variable transmission mated to a two-litre engine generating 140bhp. This version achieves economy of 38mpg, acceleration to 60mph in 10.3 seconds and a CO2 rating of 174g/km.

The entry model Renault Megane Sport Tourer is the 1.6-litre 100bhp Extreme at £15,855, followed by the 1.5 dCi 86 at £17,615.

Megane Sport Tourer Dynamique Tom Tom trim models start with the 1.6-litre 110bhp at £18,555 with the 1.5 dCi 106 at £20,115.

The Privilege TomTom range comprises the TCe 130 model at £20,405 and the dCi 130 at £22,090.
