The Skoda Fabia Estate is a compact supermini-based car that offers class-leading luggage space. There is also good provision for up to five people in the smart-looking yet robust cabin. Refinement and ride comfort are among the Skoda Fabia Estate’s most impressive qualities, together with Volkswagen-like assembly standards and a down-to-earth approach to value.
Each engine in the Skoda Fabia Estate line-up delivers willing responses in everyday driving and puts the emphasis on fuel efficiency and low emissions. That helps keep running costs low, even by the standards of this cost-effective class.
The Skoda Fabia Estate has a reputation for dependability and attracts a loyal following. Like all recent Skoda cars, it fares well in owner and driver surveys.

The Skoda Fabia Estate is available in one body style and offers extra luggage-carrying capacity over the Skoda Fabia hatchback, which is reviewed separately. The Skoda Fabia Estate offers a class-leading load space of 1460 litres with the 60:40-split rear seat folded and an equally impressive 480 litres with all five seats in use.
Skoda’s sensible approach to equipment and value is evident across the line-up, which starts with Skoda Fabia S trim and tops out with Skoda Fabia Elegance. All models have front electric windows, central locking, a CD/radio with a socket for an MP3 player, four airbags, anti-lock brakes and an immobiliser. Climatronic air conditioning, rear parking sensors, alloy wheels, four electric windows, an alarm and six airbags are standard on Skoda Fabia Elegance trim.
Every Skoda Fabia Estate is equipped with at least four airbags as standard and Skoda Fabia 3 trim extends the protection to six airbags. The rear seat features three-point seatbelts for all three passengers and has ISOFIX mounting points for child seats. All models are also equipped with a switch that deactivates the front passenger airbag to enable the use of a rear-facing child seat in the front.
Anti-lock brakes are standard and ESP stability control features on some models. The Skoda Fabia Estate has not been crash-tested by EuroNCAP but the hatchback on which it is based has been awarded four out of five stars.
All engines emit low levels of CO2 for their performance. Lowest of all is the GreenLine version with just 109g/km whilst 1.4 TDI PD 80bhp models also deliver very low emissions of 120g/km.
The Skoda Fabia Estate offers a choice of engines – three petrol and three turbodiesels. All place a premium on low emissions and fuel efficiency, which helps to keep running costs to a minimum while ensuring that there’s sufficient real-world performance.
The 105bhp engine is a turbodiesel, the 1.9 TDI PD. This range-topping engine is capable of taking the Skoda Fabia Estate to 119mph, yet it also emits just 129g/km of CO2 and returns an official combined average of 57.6mpg. Two 1.4-litre turbodiesel models, tuned for 70bhp and 80bhp shift the emphasis slightly further towards fuel efficiency and low emissions. The 1.4 TDI PD 80bhp puts out just 120g/km and delivers an impressive 61.4mpg, yet it is also capable of 109mph. The GreenLine version of this engine is more efficient still and mixes 105mph with 109g/km of CO2 and 68.9mpg.
The entry-level 70bhp 1.2-litre petrol model is good for 102mph, 140g/km and 47.9mpg. An 85bhp 1.4-litre petrol model offers increased pace and 109mph for a small cost to economy (43.5mpg) and emissions (155g/km).
The Skoda Fabia Estate range spans £10,425 for the Skoda Fabia S 1.2 12v HTP 70bhp, to £14,895 for the Skoda Fabia Scout 1.9 TDI PD 105bhp turbodiesel.
