As the only point of contact between your car and the road, tyres are arguably the most important safety feature on your vehicle. They provide the grip for steering, braking and acceleration and, to further enhance that grip, tyre tread is designed to squeeze water out from the tyres' contact patch.
Don't get caught out this winter
Did you know?
Snowing or not, when the temperature drops below 7°C, the tread compound in normal tyres begins to harden, reducing your grip on the road.
Our winter tyres are now in stock and, judging by the demand we experienced last winter, we're expecting them to sell out fast. Due to the grip from winter tyres we recommend that all 4 tyres are fitted.
Your original set can we stored safely, free of charge, at any of our dealerships until you are ready to change them*. Tyres can be stored for a maximum of 6 months from date of purchase. If for any reason, your tyres haven’t been refitted by the 6 month period, we reserve the right to responsibly dispose of any unclaimed tyres.
So stay safe and stay on the road this winter. Order yours early while stocks last. Contact your nearest dealership to find out more or enter your registration number above to book your winter tyres online.
*We will not store wheels and trims.
What can go wrong?
The AA estimates that 1 in 10 British motorists drive with at least one illegal tyre. The legal minimum is 1.6mm but it is recommended that you change your tyres when the tread depth reaches 3mm or 78% worn.
What's more, 90% of all vehicles on the road have incorrect tyre pressures that adversely affect braking and steering, particularly when cornering. Sudden failure of under-inflated tyres contributes to 6% of fatal accidents.
Incorrect tyre pressures can also contribute to reduced fuel economy and increased environmental pollution. And don't forget your spare tyre: if it's not regularly checked it may become illegal or under-inflated. Insurance claims could be void if your tyres are below the legal limit.
And it's not just safety that comes at a price. You can be fined up to £2500 and receive 3 penalty points for each illegal tyre.
Did you know?
Worn tyres at 1.6mm could increase stopping distances at 70mph by at least 33 metres – the equivalent of 3 bus lengths.
What can you do?
All tyres, including the spare, should be checked once a week when they are cold. Look for damage and wear and check the pressure. Because modern cars go longer between services, it's vital to regularly check your tread depth readings. Remember: as your tread depth decreases, your stopping distance in wet weather will increase.
